What Class 21 protects

  • Household cleaning articles
  • Unworked or semi-worked glass, except building glass
  • Combs, sponges and brushes, except paintbrushes

What Class 21 does NOT protect

These look similar but belong to another class. Choosing wrong is the most common reason a trademark protects less than its owner believes.

The most expensive mistake in Class 21

Class 21 protects the utensil, not the product used with it nor the appliance that powers it. The liquid cleaner is class 3, the blender or electric grinder class 7, the electric grill class 11 and the kitchen knife class 8. A kitchen or cleaning brand almost never lives in class 21 alone. It is also the class for artisan ceramics and glass, which people habitually look for elsewhere.

Who files in Class 21

  • Kitchenware and cooking utensil manufacturers
  • Glassware, tableware and ceramics makers
  • Brush and oral hygiene product makers
  • Household cleaning article manufacturers
  • Personal care accessory brands, such as combs and sponges

Classes commonly filed alongside Class 21

In Mexico each class is a separate application. Which classes you need depends on what your business actually does and how you plan to enter the market, not on the classes being related to each other. These show up in similar businesses, but the right list comes from your own activity.

Not sure which class you need?

A wrongly chosen class cannot be fixed later: you refile and you pay again. We review your case and tell you exactly which classes your trademark belongs in before anything is filed.
